چکیده

Before having received any insulin, the serum insulin level was abnormally low in relation to the blood glucose level (Table). At the time of diagnosis some degree of insensitivity to insulin was suggested since injection of 2 units crystalline insulin intravenously (1 0 unit/kg) caused a less than 50% decrease in blood sugar concentration after 30 minutes. The necessity for insulin treatment for only 21 days, and the improvement of the glucose tolerance test with time, could be interpreted as a maturation of insulin production by the ,-cells. Our patient appeared to have a transient inadequate secretion of insulin, and in addition perhaps some degree of insulin insensitivity.

Chronic Bilateral Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis as an Unusual Presentation of Congenital Panhypopituitarism due to Pituitary Hypoplasia in a 17-Year-Old Female

We report an interesting case of a 17-year-old normal-statured female who was diagnosed with congenital panhypopituitarism due to pituitary hypoplasia at the presentation of bilateral slipped capital femoral epiphysis. We emphasized the importance of endocrinologic evaluation in patients with atypical slipped capital femoral epiphysis to prevent potential complication of adrenal crisis during s...

Familial congenital adrenal hypoplasia.

Adrenal hypoplasia is an invariable finding in infants with anencephaly. Hypoplastic adrenal glands have been described in infancy associated with congenital hypoplasia of the pituitary gland (Mosier, 1956). S;kl (1948) was probably the first author to describe congenital adrenal hypoplasia unassociated with other congenital abnormalities, though he mentions some similar cases described by earl...

Infantile Growth Hormone Deficiency and X- Linked Adrenal Hypoplasia Congenita.

CONTEXT X-linked adrenal hypoplasia congenita (AHC) is a rare but important cause of primary adrenal insufficiency and can be associated with significant morbidity and mortality. AHC is caused by mutations within the NROB1 gene that codes for the DAX-1 protein, an orphan nuclear receptor essential for the development of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Affected individuals typically pre...

Corticotroph adenoma of the pituitary in a patient with X-linked adrenal hypoplasia congenita due to a novel mutation of the DAX-1 gene.

OBJECTIVE Mutations in the DAX-1 gene result in X-linked congenital adrenal hypoplasia. The classic clinical presentation is primary adrenal insufficiency in early life and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism at the time of expected puberty, but recent data have expanded the phenotypic spectrum of DAX-1 mutations. We report the occurrence of an ACTH-secreting adenoma in a patient with X-linked congen...

Progressive onset of adrenal insufficiency and hypogonadism of pituitary origin caused by a complex genetic rearrangement within DAX-1.

DAX-1 [dosage-sensitive sex reversal, adrenal hypoplasia congenital (AHC) critical region on the X chromosome, gene 1] is a transcription factor expressed in the adrenal gland and at all levels of the gonadotrope axis. Inactivating mutations of DAX1 result in the X-linked form of AHC with associated hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. AHC usually reveals itself as adrenal failure in early infancy, a...

Growth hormone deficiency due to traumatic brain injury in a patient with X-linked congenital adrenal hypoplasia.

X-linked adrenal hypoplasia congenita (AHC) is characterized by primary adrenal insufficiency and is frequently associated with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH). The production of other pituitary hormones (adrenocorticotropic hormone [ACTH], growth hormone [GH], thyroid-stimulating hormone [TSH], and prolactin [PRL]) is usually normal. Mutations of the DAX-1 gene have been reported in patient...
